Good Lord (Great God), Give Our Hog-Bristle Brush the Strength & Courage to Paint the Enemy into a Corner & Out the Door

* * *

On almost every page, of this and our companion site, we’ve been quite critical of Modernism: both its worldview and its expression in Art.  And rightly so. Some have taken issue with that; not by crossing swords against our stance, our observations, our hard-hearted reasoning, but by welding an exasperated astonishment: “How can anyone not be Modern?”

What’s exasperating, really, is their refusal to sit down for an honest chat. Over beer & coffee, we’d be happy to tell why we hauled Modernism out back as we gave it a whack or two here & there. Big deal!

The Great Modern Project is (in truth) what makes us Westerners; though it’s not been much of an Age of Reason Modernism has a bit to go before its course is run; and  if it would stop being misdirected by the bastardy of our day, still much to offer.

Modernism has always been adolescent in its look-about, always in need of having its ears tweaked and its neck scrubbed. Glad to do our part: take Past Masters & Times as  pumice soap to the dirt its magnate flesh picked up rolling and wallowing in byways and misdirection. Modernism’s first gasp into history was so giddy, so full of itself, it needed our stepping in.

Gave it all we had, though it didn’t much appreciate the guiding hand. Modernism bypassed the threshold into adulthood: went traipsing down the thorny, stony path – like so many bleating lambs and yipping pups – into Post-Modernism’s (moral, political, philosophical, aesthetic, pictorial) slaughterhouse.

(Sets one thinking: even before Modernism was weaned as a pup – let’s say in 1910 – or had its first lamb-chop butchering, had it already packed its bag for the apocalypse?)

Yet, anyway, mind well. Modernism is not (is never) our philosophical or pictorial nemesis or foe. Have never said that!

That tag we gladly pin on where it belongs – Post-Modernism.

As a worldview or as a squatter occupying the Arts, Post-Modernism is our arch-enemy. Make no drown dead bones about that! Open a couple of the links below to get the point.

In fact – the boots-on-the-ground truth is – we’ll take to the trenches to defend Modernism against the plundering Post-Modernism ravages against it. Do it, even as we must admit we’re rescuing our foe’s battered wayward parent; for Modernism, in a careless, thoughtless moment of pride, had sired this philosophical and pictorial bastard upon the body of a whore not of its making.

Well, there it is!

U.S. soldiers ordered to ignore Afghan allies’ abuse of boys

What are we in Afghanistan for, if not to stand for our own values and the principles of human rights? Instead, U.S. officials are aiding and abetting the destruction of these boys’ lives — and in the case of Lance Corporal Buckley, sacrificing our own troops. This is beyond shameful. “Those are the ones brought […]
